Emily Prokop's Interview

1: Please explain more what you do.
I am a podcast editor and consultant. I have clients with podcasts who just want to do the recording and they send the files off to me and I add the intro/outro/transitions and either send it back or upload it to Libsyn for them with their show notes. Sometimes I write the show notes in addition to editing. And I also do some consulting for my clients, as well as those looking to either get into podcasting or who are looking for ways to optimize their podcast.

2: What is your biggest life lesson?
You are your own worst critic. Would you tolerate your best friend saying the things to herself that you say to yourself sometimes?

3: What is your biggest achievement?
My two kids. They are amazing and they surprise me every day.

4: What is currently the most challenging part of running your business?
Stopping. Taking breaks. I love what I do. I love all the aspects of it, even the boring admin part. I'm constantly learning, which always revs me up.

5: What was the biggest hurdle you had to overcome to get where you are now?
Feeling uncomfortable. I knew I was going to feel uncomfortable. I would never have been able to step out and say "I'm starting a business" without realizing I either had to deal with that discomfort, or go back to another soul-sucking 9-5. And I chose discomfort.

6: What is your favorite book?
Lately it's DailyOM by Madisyn Taylor.

7: If you could have anyone educate you who would it be?
Landon Porter, who runs the Facebook group Getting Clients without Being Salesy and has a course for getting clients. I had a session with him where we got to pick each other's brain and I left it feeling amazing about my work, about where I was with my business, and having some of the most brilliant ideas to help my business. Once I'm a little more established, I'm going to buy his course, but in the meantime he gives so much value just in his Facebook group.

8: What is your deepest regret?
I try not to have any. I made a silly rule for myself when I went to college that I'm allowed two big regrets by the time I'm 25. I don't know why I picked two or even 25. But what I considered my two big regrets at 25 turned out to shape who I am today, so I don't really count them as "regrets" any more.

9: What is your favorite podcast?
I love any podcast about podcasting really, but the first podcast I ever listened to was Good Job, Brain, and it's still my favorite. It's all about trivia and one of the reasons I started podcasting.

10: How people can get in contact with you?
I'm at EPodcasstProductions.com or TheStoryBehindPodcast.com. I'm on Instagram and Twitter as @emilypeckprokop or @storybehindpod.

11: What is your YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts?
I'm on all of those as @storybehindpod.

12: Who inspires you on social media and why?
Probably Haley Burkhead from the Market Beautifully Podcast. I love following her on Instagram and her stories throughout the day because of how positive and sweet she is.

13: What is your favorite tech tool that you use in the your business?
Probably Izotope RX, a software editing program that does a lot of the little things for me in editing, like get rid of plosives or symbelences.

14: How would you help people with disabilities?
My husband's aunt is deaf and I've been trying to learn moree sign language to be able to communicate with her.

15: What is the hardest part of your job that you have to face everyday?
Probably time management. I do a lot on Facebook and it's so easy to get sucked into the non-productive side of it
