Dorie Clack's Interview

1: What is your deepest regret?

I regret not clueing in sooner to the fact that my beloved cat, Gideon, had developed cancer. Cats hide their illnesses well, and in general he was a very healthy guy. His eating habits had changed, but I chalked it up to being inexplicably finicky and didn’t probe deeper as soon as I should have. His death two years ago hit me very hard, as others who have had close relationships with pets will understand. I had him for 16 years, and he was an immeasurable force for good in my life.

2: Please explain more what you do.

I help professionals and companies ensure their true talents are being recognized in the marketplace. I do that through writing books like Stand Out and
Reinventing You, teaching for Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, giving keynote talks, and consulting and coaching.

3: How people can get in contact with you?

The best way for folks to reach me is through my website, dorieclark.com. They can also download a free 42-page Stand Out self-assessment workbook I developed, which guides people step-by-step through developing their own breakthrough ideas and building a following around them.

4: What is your biggest life lesson?

The reason I wrote Stand Out is that I believe everyone has an important message to share and an important contribution to make. I don’t want to live in a world where the loudest voice wins; I want to live in a world where the best ideas win. But we can only do that if we’re willing to move past self-doubt and share our vision with the world.
